Záróvizsga tájékoztató // BA final exam

Az anglisztika alapszakos záróvizsgára csak az a hallgató jelentkezhet, aki az adott félévben határidőre benyújtotta szakdolgozatát, és azt elégtelennél jobb jegyre értékelte a bíráló, továbbá aki a záróvizsgára bocsátásig megszerezte abszolutóriumát avagy végbizonyítványát, tehát legkésőbb a záróvizsga-hetet megelőző héten teljesítette utolsó vizsgáit.

 

Abszolutóriumot az a hallgató kaphat (ld. TVSz 39.§), aki teljesítette a Kar és az anglisztika alapszak által előírt összes kötelező tárgyat, az anglisztika alapszak két kötelezően választható sávjának egyikét, valamint megszerezte a törvényileg előírt 180 kreditet. Az abszolutórium megszerzésének nem előfeltétele sem a két választott specializáció, sem a más szakos minor teljesítése, amennyiben a hallgató enélkül is rendelkezik elégséges kredittel. Ilyen esetben azonban sem a minor, sem a specializáció teljesítése nem lesz bejegyezve a diploma mellékletébe.

 

Az abszolutóriumot a Tanulmányi Osztály állítja ki, amelynek jogszabályi kötelessége a végbizonyítvány kiállítása és ezzel a hallgató tanulmányainak lezárása, ha minden feltételnek megfelel. Ha tehát valaki szeretné a tanulmányait további egy vagy két félévvel meghosszabbítani (pl. abból a célból, hogy befejezze minorját vagy valamelyik specializációját, vagy mert Erasmus-ösztöndíjjal külföldre készül), de egyébként már rendelkezik 180 kredittel, akkor fontos, hogy legalább egy kötelezően előírt tárgy teljesítését (pl. Nyelvi kompetenciavizsga) halassza el, mert így nem abszolválhat és a TO sem fogja lezárni a Neptunban tanulmányait.

Az abszolutórium megszerzése után a hallgató több kurzust nem vehet fel a Karon, azaz nem lehet több aktív féléve, viszont a továbbiakban sem tandíjat, sem egyéb költségtérítést nem fizet (leszámítva a hallgatói jogviszonyon kívüli záróvizsgára jelentkezés esetleges díját). Fontos még, hogy a felsőoktatási törvény értelmében az abszolutóriumtól számított öt éven belül záróvizsgát kell tenni, különben az abszolutórium elévül.

2. ZÁRÓVIZSGA MENETE (JELENLÉTI VAGY ONLINE)

Az anglisztika alapszakos záróvizsga több részvizsgából áll, melyek a következők:

a. A szakdolgozat megvédése
b. Irodalmi záróvizsga (tételsort ld. lent)
c. Nyelvészeti záróvizsga (tételsort ld. lent)

A három részvizsgára azonos napon, de külön részbizottságok előtt és külön helyszínen kerül sor, hallgatónként eltérő sorrendben, a minél gördülékenyebb lebonyolítás érdekében. Online vizsga esetén ugyanez az MS Teams-ben nyitott külön "csatornákon" zajlik -- ilyenkor az Intézet a vizsga előtti napokban "próbahívást" szervez az érintett hallgatók számára. A részvizsgák végén nincs eredményhirdetés -- erre csak a teljes vizsga lezajlása után kerül sor, a vizsgaelnök szervezésében.

a.) A szakdolgozat védése során a szakdolgozat bírálója (vagy az ő kényszerű távolléte esetén a témavezető avagy más egyéb kijelölt oktató) tesz fel kérdéseket a vizsgázónak szakdolgozatával kapcsolatban. A bíráló kérheti a téma bővebb kifejtését, egyes hibák szóbeli korrigálását, homályos pontok magyarázatát. A helyszínen felkészülési idő nincs, hiszen a vizsga a szakdolgozati bírálat alapján zajlik, amit a vizsgázó előre megkap. A védésen a vizsgázónak NEM feladata a szakdolgozat tartalmát prezentáció formájában bemutatni, arra technikai lehetőség sincs. A vizsgázó teljesítményét a bíráló/vizsgáztató egy érdemjeggyel értékeli.

b.) Az irodalmi záróvizsga az angol-amerikai irodalomtörténet kötelező kurzusain elsajátított ismereteken alapul. Az irodalmi rész vizsgatételeiről, a vizsga céljáról, a vizsgára készülésről, a vizsga pontos menetéről az alább letölthető dokumentum tájékoztat. A tájékoztatás főbb pontjai magukban foglalják a tételeket, a vizsga időbeosztását, a tételhúzás menetét, a felkészülési időt, a felelet részeit (10 perces beszéd a tételről, 5 perc kérdés-felelet a beszéd főbb pontjairól), az értékelés szempontjait részletesen, valamint az ajánlott irodalomlistát. Az irodalmi záróvizsgát egy jeggyel értékelik a vizsgáztatók.

c.) A nyelvészeti záróvizsgán a hallgatók a kötelező áttekintő nyelvészeti kurzusokon szerzett tudásukról adnak számot úgy, hogy a szak honlapján feltüntetett tételsorból véletlenszerűen kiválasztott kérdéseket önállóan kidolgozzák és szóban kifejtik. Online vizsga esetén a vizsgázók nem kapnak felkészülési időt, ezért a szokásos kiselőadásszerű felelet helyett a kérdésekre röviden, a vizsgáztatók segítő kérdéseire is támaszkodva válaszolnak. A nyelvészeti záróvizsgát egy jeggyel értékelik a vizsgáztatók.

A záróvizsga osztályzatát tehát összesen négy részosztályzat átlaga adja: a szakdolgozaté, a szakdolgozat-védésé, valamint az irodalmi és a nyelvi záróvizsgáé. Amennyiben ezek átlaga X,5-re jönne ki, a TVSz-ben rögzített kerekítési szabály értelmében az összosztályzatot felfelé kerekítjük. Amennyiben bármelyik részjegy elégtelen, a záróvizsga összosztályzata is elégtelen lesz, ám a TVSz (Kari kieg. rend. 18.§ (5)) értelmében a későbbi megismételt záróvizsgán csak az elégtelennel értékelt részvizsgát köteles megismételni a hallgató.

A diploma megszerzéséhez szükséges nyelvvizsgakövetelményről jogszabály rendelkezik. (Ld. net.jogtar.hu) Anglisztika BA-s hallgatók esetében a diploma megszerzése egyben a felsőfokú nyelvvizsga megszerzését is jelenti, így ezenfelül nekik egyéb nyelvvizsgakötelezettségük nincs.

BA final exam (in English)

1.      Final certificate (“Abszolutórium”)

A student can only apply for the English Studies BA final exam if they have submitted their thesis paper before the deadline, and this was awarded a passgrade (grade above 1); moreover, they have also acquired their final certificate until the beginning of the final exam period. In practice, this means that they have completed all their exams no later than in the week prior to the final exam period.

The final certificate (see Education and Exam Policy Section 39) shall be issued to students who have completed all study and exam requirements specified by the Faculty, have completed all compulsory courses set out in the curriculum of the English Studies BA programme, together with one of the elective tiers of the English Studies BA programme, and have obtained the legally required 180 study credits. Neither the two selected sub-specialisations, nor any minor programmes of other departments are prerequisites for the final certificate, as long as the student has obtained the necessary credits without these. In such cases, however, neither the completion of the minor programme nor that of the specialisation will be registered in the diploma supplement.

The final certificate is issued by the Registrar’s Office, which is legally required to issue the certificate and consequently closes the student’s studies when the student has met every requirement. Therefore, if a student wishes to extend their studies with one or two further semesters (e.g. for the purpose of completing a minor programme or a sub-specialisation, or because they intend to spend a semester abroad on an Erasmus grant), but they have already obtained 180 credits, it is important that they postpone the completion of at least one of their compulsory courses (e.g. Language proficiency exam), since in this case, the Registrar’s Office will not close their studies in Neptun, and cannot issue the final certificate either.

After a student has obtained the final certificate, they cannot sign up for any more courses on the Faculty, that is, they cannot register for an active semester. They no longer pay tuition or other fees (except for the fee of registration for a final exam following the termination of the student legal status). It is also important to know that according to the Hungarian Act on National Higher Education, the final examination must be completed within five years of the issuing of the final certificate, otherwise the certificate expires.

2.      The final exam (in-person or online)

The final exam of the English Studies BA programme comprises several parts, namely:

a)      thesis defence
b)      literature examination
c)      linguistics examination

The three parts are held on the same day, but in separate exam rooms and in front of separate exam committees, in a different order for each student, to ensure a smooth flow and minimise unnecessary waiting time for students. In the case of online exams, separate "channels" are opened in MS Teams for each part, and a technical trial meeting is held the day before the first final exam. No results are announced in the exam parts -- there is a final announcement when all the exams have finished, conducted by the chairman.

a)     In the course of the thesis defence, the opponent/reviewer of the thesis paper (or in their absence, the supervisor, or any other appointed lecturer) asks the candidate questions concerning the thesis. The examiner may ask for a more detailed discussion of the subject, the oral correction of specific errors, or an explanation for unclear details. There is no preparation time, since the questions are available in the evaluation, which the student receives well in advance. During the defence, the examinee is NOT required to present the contents of the thesis in the form of a presentation, and the technical conditions are not given to do so, either. The student receives one grade for the defence.

b)     The literature examination is based on the material of compulsory courses in English and American literary history. A detailed description of the exam questions, the purpose and structure of the exam, together with suggestions on how to prepare for the exam, is downloadable below. The description includes the questions themselves, the schedule of the exam, choice of topics, preparation time, parts of the exam (ten-minute independent oral presentation of the topic, followed by five minutes of questions and answers on the speech), detailed criteria of evaluation, together with a recommended list of readings. The student receives one grade for the literature examination.

c)     In the linguistics examination the candidate presents their knowledge acquired in the compulsory linguistics survey courses with the help of four short questions randomly assigned them from the list of exam questions downloadable below. In in-person exams, after individual preparation the examinee talks about the sub-topics selected, in an order of her/his choice, and answers the examiners' helping questions. In online exams, there is no separate preparation time granted, so the examinee is not expected to deliver the usual lecture-like speech but instead, give shorter definitions and descriptions, and answer questions from the committee. Then, the student receives one grade for the linguistics examination.

As a result, the final examination grade is computed from the average of four grades: one for the thesis paper, one for the thesis defence, and one for the literature and the linguistics examination each. In the case the average result is X.5, the final grade is rounded up to an integer in the method specified in the Education and Exam Policy. If any of the partial exam grades is a fail (1), the resulting grade of the final examination is also a fail, but according to the stipulations of the Education and Exam Policy (special Faculty regulations Section 18 (5)), the students must repeat only that part of the exam that they failed earlier.

Language exam requirements

The language exam required for the issuance of the diploma is specified by law (see https://net.jogtar.hu/). For English Studies BA students, a successful acquisition of the diploma also means the acquisition of an advanced level language exam, therefore they do not need to complete any further language examinations.
